The Day to Say Good Bye (?)

Image
It was February 8 in the night, actually I had to pack all my things but I was not excited to do it. Instead, I was having conversation and sharing with the coordinator of my Receiving University, Dr. Gabinete and my companion from Indonesia. We talked a lot about the possibility of what will we be in the future, our future plan. It was a deep conversation indeed. We really enjoyed the moment until forgot that it was already midnight. As the consequence, even already midnight, I could not start to sleep because I had to pack my things first. While I was packing, I saw my students’ letter that I had not yet finished to read. I decided to read them all before continued my packing. Unfortunately, their letters made me sad. For the umpteenth time, I thought I was not ready to leave. However, life must go on, so I have to go. February 9 in the morning, we leaved our beloved municipality, Estancia, and went to Iloilo city. We spent the whole afternoon at Supermall, b...

The Remaining Days before Leaving

The Closing Program The 6th day of February was the last day of our teaching practicum. I got letters and some gifts from my students, the teachers, and student teacher in NIPSC Laboratory Junior High School. I was touched when I saw tears in some of their eyes and they sang me some songs. Actually, I almost cried but I held my tears. I did not want to be looked as a weak person and made them sadder because of me. This is the video when my cooperating teacher and my students sang me some songs on my last practicum day in NIPSC Laboratory Junior High School: Finished practicum did not mean that we had nothing to do, instead we were so busy in this last week. I had to finish checking all of my students’ work, inputting their score data to be given to my cooperating teacher, preparing the materials about Islam and Indonesia to be presented in front of Teacher Education Department Students of NIPSC, and also speech for the closing program. On Thursday, 7 th day of Febr...

The Hospitality of Filipinos

Image
The reason why I brought many foods there was just because I thought it was difficult to find halal food there. But then I was touched to see how care and hospitable are the Filipinos. Since the interview session, I told my coordinator that it is because I am a muslim, so I cannot eat something like pork, dog, drink anything contains alcohol etc. Of course it is easy to not eating pork, but how did I know that the utensils used to cook other foods are not used to cook pork? Because most of restaurants there serve pork as the menu. But then our coordinator and every one who invited us to eat together usually had to make sure first that all foods and the utensils that were used there to cook did not contain or contribute any pork. Even one of the host that invited us consulted with their muslim friend first about how to serve the dinner that muslim can eat. Everyone who invited us? Exactly. We had lot of sponsors that treated our lunch and dinner. Here are our hospitable...

Flew to Iloilo

Kuala Lumpur International Airport I should be arriving at Iloilo airport on January 14, but I was there on February 15 in the morning. There was something happened. It was actually the first time for me to go by plane, going abroad as well. Before leaving, I was so busy to prepare almost everything. Many foods, several clothes, anticipating excess baggage, etc. but I forgot one crucial thing. Whenever I connect my phone to internet, I was thinking that it will automatically adjust the time of the country where it is connected. But I was wrong. February 14 In the morning, I was just waiting at the waiting room of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) before the boarding gate, charging my phone, then walked to the boarding gate one hour before my take off schedule, according to my phone time. Then I realized that the plane has just departed to manila. How could it be? I saw my phone and a board that showing the departure time, oh my Goodness! The time was different,...
