May 9, 1952. The school was opened on July 2, 1956.
The
school was first administrated by the director of Fisheries through the
superintendent of the Philippine Institute of Fisheries Technology (PIFI).
Pursuant to the Reorganization Plan No. 30-A, the school together with six
other Secondary Schools of Fisheries existing at the time were transferred to
the Department of Education effective January 12, 1957.

NIPSC
Laboratory High School now is considered as a semi-private school. It is under School
of Education of NIPSC. The school does not get any fund from the government
anymore, so the parents should pay. I
was placed there, at NIPSC Laboratory Junior High School for my practice
teaching. The total of the students
are 302. The school assigned me to teach grade 9, Capricorn and Virgo sections.
1.2 Academic Support System
NIPSC
Laboratory Junior High School has two sections for each grade, except grade 10 that
only has one section. The school has several rooms for teaching activity.
Students have to move to different rooms for each subjects. To support the
teaching activity, the school provides projector, internet, computer, printer, library,
soccer field, volleyball field, stage, etc. The students also can use the
facilities of the main campus such as Mini Theater, Basketball field, Gym, Big
Library, etc.
1.3 Teaching System
In
some subjects like Science, TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education), Mathematics,
and Mapeh (Musika, Sining, Edukasyong Pangkatawan, at Kalusugan / Music, Arts,
Physical Education, and Health) the teachers use English as the medium of
instruction. The teachers there really encourage the students to be familiar
with English, that is the reason why many students there can understand
English well.
According
to the school, because there is no best strategy for teaching, they do not have
prescribed for such teaching strategy that the teachers should use, but because
they implement K-12 program as a mandate from the government, the teaching
activity in NIPSC Laboratory Junior High School is learners centred.
The
School implements full day school system. The teaching activity is from Monday until
Friday. Students have to go to school at 7:30 am and go home at 5:00 pm, but
sometimes when they do not have a class after 4 pm, they can go home one hour
earlier. There is a break time between 11:30 am – 1:00 pm. They also can go
home during the break time if they want.
1.4 Materials and Other Learning
Sources
The
teachers and the students use book as the main material source. They do not get
any books from the government, so the school has a cooperation with a book
publisher. The students should pay for that. Another learning source that the
teachers use is internet.
1.5 Measurement and Evaluation System
There
are four grading periods in NIPSC Laboratory Junior High School. June – August,
August – October, October – January, and January – March/ April. There will be
some kind of tests to measure and evaluate the students like formative test,
summative test, diagnostic test, performance, and periodical exam. The teachers
use K-12 grading sheet that is provided by the government to input the students’
score.
1.6 Curriculum
NIPSC
Laboratory Junior High School implements K-12 program as a mandate from the
government. K-12 is a program that covers kindergarten and 12 years of basic
education to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills,
develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education,
middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. The core
subjects for Junior High School are science, mathematics, English, Filipino,
Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies), Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, Musika, Sining,
Edukasyong Pangkatawan, at Kalusugan / Music, Arts, Physical Education, and
Health (MAPEH), and Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE).
1.7 Teaching Plan
The
teachers are making lesson plan with their daily topic, at the same time there
are DLL (Daily Lesson Logs) that were provided by the government. Sometimes,
this DLL have different lessons that are not presented in the books which they use, so in this case the teachers have to make their own lesson
plan.
